Clever workaround I'm a Celeb stars like Tulisa have found for make-up ban (2024)

As ITV I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here watchers question why it appears some campmates are wearing full faces of make-up, we look at the trick stars have found to work around the beauty ban

It's not a new rule on I'm a Celeb that the stars are banned from bringing make-up into the jungle, but this year, ITV watchers are questioning whether that rule has been dropped or if image-conscious campmates are breaking it.

Stars of the 2024 show like Tulisa, Jane Moore and Coleen Rooney all appear to be wearing a fair amount of make-up on their brows, lips and eyes, leading X users to ask if a few of them have snuck products into the backpacks.

"Why isn't Tulisa and Jane's make-up coming off?" asks one, while a second wonders: "Sorry, but how have Tulisa & Jane still got make-up on?"

We have the answer, and it's no. The stars aren't applying make-up in the jungle, but they have indeed found a clever workaround to the beauty ban in semi-permanent make-up.

This isn't the first year I'm a Celeb stars have indulged in pre-jungle tattoo transformations to ensure they look made-up on screen, but with at least three of this year's campmates sporting various forms of semi-permanent make-up, it definitely seems to have taken off as a trend.

What tattoo treatments have the I'm A Celeb stars had?

Tulisa took to Instagram shortly before jetting off to Australia to update her followers on her jungle-ready beauty treatments. "I tatted the lips to match the brows, couldn't help myself!" she penned alongside a selfie.

It also appears Tulisa has had a full set of eyelash extensions applied to see her through the first few weeks of the show. However, with infills for lash extensions needing doing every 2-3 weeks, it's likely her eyes will look slightly more naked as the show progresses.

Jane hasn't posted on her social media about any beauty treatments she tested out before heading into the jungle, but beauty experts would likely all agree that her defined eyes and eyebrows are thanks to semi-permanent make-up.

We'd hazard an educated guess that she's had her upper and lower eyelids defined with tattoo eyeliner, and her brows given a darker hue with microblading. However, she could also have had a good brow tint shortly before her departure.

Coleen looks fresh-faced and gorgeous, but it's clear her brows appear to have been given structure and a tint with the help of microblading or microshading. Like Jane, Coleen didn't give any beauty updates on her Instagram page before leaving for her stint on the ITV show, but we do know microblading is a treatment she's favoured in the past.

Semi-permanent make-up artist Liz Clough posted a snap of Coleen in August of last year captioned "Brow top-up today for Coleen', and shared her impressive before and after snaps. We imagine mum-of-four nipped back in to see Liz in recent months for a touch-up.

Lashify Control Kit: I stopped getting salon lash extensions the day I found this DIY underlash kit. It mimics the look of pro lashes, and each application lasts 10-14 days before you need to reglue the clusters. The initial cost is a little steep, but the glue lasts ages, and then you only need to rebuy lash clusters.

What you need to know about I'm a Celeb-loved microblading treatment

“Microblading is a technique used to create 3D hair strokes. These strokes are made with a small handheld tool featuring a cluster of tiny blades on the tip,” explains eyebrow specialist Liarna from Liarna Jessica London. “The tool picks up ink and implants the colour down in the dermis, the second layer of skin.”

“We do the initial treatment, then ask the client to come back 6-8 weeks later for a top-up. This is just to correct any fading that might have occurred after the first treatment, and to make sure the ink is properly implanted in the skin."

Numbing cream is applied and reapplied throughout the treatment, so pain is kept to a minimum. Downtime is also pretty minimal – your brows will just look a little dark for a few days. You need to apply a special balm on the first night if you see the skin getting too dry or crusty, and you might be given bandages to place over the brows ahead of bedtime on the day of the treatment.

Liarna offers the treatment at her London clinic for £795. This includes the top-up appointment six weeks later.
