The death toll of the historic infernos has reached 16, as heroic firefighters still battle hellish conditions on the front lines of at least five different fires.

Apocalyptic fires tore through the ritzy enclave of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, rapidly spreading to surrounding suburbs as a windstorm carried embers and debris in all directions.
Residents fled and then waited with bated breath to learn more about their homes, as news began trickling out that entire streets had been wiped off the map, firefighters were running out of water, and resources were being diverted to fight the fire on multiple fronts.

The two-story house had consisted of five bedrooms as well as five and a half baths. In the backyard was a swimming pool, spa area and also an outdoor fireplace.
Melissa had previously owned a separate property in the Palisades - which she sold in 2019 for around $5.2 million.
After being evacuated from her home, the star was able to save her late mother Joan Rivers' Emmy award before the property burned down.

Keleigh had shared several photos on Instagram overnight, the first being a dramatic photo of the blaze with a crying emoji, and the second urging evacuees to leave bowls of water on the streets for animals as they escaped.
The couple have not yet commented on the loss of their own home.
The sprawling five bed, seven bath home was built in 2015, equipped with a movie theatre, gym and custom staircase.
It is understood the property was purchased as a 'secondary residence.'

He had earlier discussed trying to flee and being trapped in the gridlocked traffic along with thousands of other residents who were following evacuation orders.
'The smoke looked pretty black and intense over Temescal Canyon,' he said.
'I couldn't see any flames but the smoke was very dark.'
His son Dan Levy later wrote on social media:'Heartbroken for my family, my friends and the people of LA affected by the catastrophic fires.'

He and his wife Janice released a statement confirming the loss.

Reality stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montagconfirmed their home has also been lost.
Pratt, 41, was captured in photos as he watched the rapidly advancing fire move toward his home.
Montagwas inconsolable as she filmed herself sobbing on Snapchat early Wednesday morning.
'I have no words... I'm so thankful that we're safe,' she said as her youngest son Ryker, two, comforted her.
'I'm so sad our house is gone. I wish I could have gone back and got more,' she continued through tears.
'I didn't think it would be the last time we would be in our house. I'm so sad for everyone else going through the same thing.'
The couple and their two sons were able to safely evacuate earlier in the day before the flames got too close.

The 40-year-old actress and singer shared photos of the rubble along with a lengthy message beginning with the news that part of their home still remained standing.
She wrote: 'We were able to park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact.
'We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house.'

Matthew Perry's former home
The home where Friends star Matthew Perry tragically died is within the destroyed evacuation zone of Pacific Palisades, according to Realtor.com.
The home was bought by real estate developerAnita Verma-Lallian for $8.5million just a few months ago.
According to Realtor.com, the property was surrounded by fire on Wednesday, with neighbors on Blue Sail Drive sharing horrifying footage of the rapidly approaching blaze to social media.
Though its unknown if Perry's former home has burned down, Cal Fire's live map shows that the neighborhood is within the 'incident perimeter.'
Verma-Lallian confirmed via Instagram Story that her and her family are 'safe' but did not provide any information about the state of the property.
Verma-Lallian — who is based in Scottsdale, Arizona — purchased Perry's 3,500-square-foot mansion in off-market deal in October 2024.
She previously told The Los Angeles Times that she planned to use the Pacific Palisades property as a 'vacation home.'

Speaking on Good Morning America on Thursday, he said he managed to make it out with only the clothes he was wearing.

Australian actor Vernon Wells has shared how a neighbour attempted to save his home in the Pacific Palisades from destruction during the California wildfires.
The US-based 79-year-old, who co-starred with Mel Gibson in Mad Max 2 over 40 years ago, said his friend, a firefighter, had heroically stayed behind after most in the neighbourhood had fled the flames.
But the man's efforts to save Vernon's house as well as other neighbouring homes failed as the blaze was just too powerful.
'He rang us and he was in tears,' a still shaken Vernon said on Friday during an appearance on Sunrise.
He continued: 'And he said, " am so, so sorry to tell you - I tried so hard to save your house and it's gone. Everything's gone".
'He said, "The other five houses, including mine, have gone as well, and that was the start of it."'

Elsewhere in the chat, Vernon related how his friend had stayed behind to wait for fire trucks to arrive to fight the blaze.
While he was standing by for help to arrive the courageous neighbour had resorted to a using a garden hose to wet down homes - including Vernon's - in order to try and protect them.
'About 150 houses went up. So far, they're saying 10,000 homes in the Pacific Palisades area have been burnt,' a heartbroken Vernon added.
Vernon, who is known to Mad Max fans the world over as the villain Wez in MM2 from 1981 said he and his wife lost 'everything' when their home was destroyed.
'I had all stuff from awards I'd won for acting, photographs from films. I had a big thing from our wedding,' he said.
'We had all this stuff that we'd accumulated over the time we've been together and, suddenly it's not there anymore. Everything, I mean, everything.
'We left with clothes on our back, our dog, our turtle, and a stray butterfly that couldn't fly that my wife was feeding.'

Still, Vernon paid tribute to his community for the way they bonded together to support one another during the deadly fires which has reportedly claimed seven lives.

'My father unfortunately was not a good father or a husband and exited the scene, but that house in Topanga was where everything felt simple, so it was a very healing thing for me to do,' he told MR PORTERin 2021.
'There was a mural of a dragon on the wall in that room that I couldn’t believe was still there, years later. The owner[who sold him the house] said: "I knew it meant a lot to somebody and that they were going to come back for it some day."'

As the Palisades fire raged, a second blaze, dubbed the Eaton Fire, broke out some 30 miles inland in Altadena, near Pasadena, and increased in size to 10,000 acres as of Wednesday afternoon.Up to 500 structures have been lost in that fire alone, and all five confirmed fatalities are related to the Eaton blaze.
